Lumberjack Football Announces Spring Practice Schedule and 2018 Spring Game

Spring practice schedule for SFA football features 15 total dates with two scrimmages and annual spring game set for April 21
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Head coach Clint Conque and the Stephen F. Austin football program announced its 2018 spring practice schedule Tuesday along with the announcement of the Lumberjack's annual spring game, which is set for Saturday, April 21. The spring practice schedule, which will open up with the first practice on Monday, March 26, includes 15 total dates and features two scrimmages.
Already involved with offseason workouts and conditioning, the 'Jacks will embark on their 2018 quest with full spring practices starting at the end of March and continuing through the third week of April. Two scrimmages will highlight the 14 practice sessions leading up to the annual spring game.
The first scrimmage is set for Saturday, April 7 at 2 p.m. and will take place at Nacogdoches High School. The opening scrimmage continues SFA's east Texas stops as the 'Jacks have held a spring scrimmage at Lufkin High School, Longview High School, Marshall High School and Carthage High School in years past. Scrimmage two of the spring will take place on Saturday, April 14 at 2 p.m. and will be held on campus inside Homer Bryce Stadium.
The Lumberjacks' 2018 spring football game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 and will culminate the 14 practice sessions as the 15th date of the spring schedule.
All practices will start at 3:50 p.m. and will be held on the turf at Homer Bryce Stadium.

For the second consecutive season the 'Jacks are set to take on six teams from the Lone Star State this fall. Eight of SFA's 11 games in 2018 will be played on Texas soil, five of which will be held at Homer Bryce Stadium. The Lumberjacks' season will begin on Saturday, Sept. 1 when SFA heads to Starkville, Mississippi, to take on Southeastern Conference stalwart Mississippi State. The 'Jacks will host NCAA Division II Tarleton State for their home opener Saturday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m.
SFA went 4-1 against in-state FCS opponents in 2017, marking the first time since 1989 the 'Jacks have claimed four victories over FCS Texas opponents in the same season. It also marked the first time since 1995 SFA has recorded four wins over Lone Star State schools in a single season.
The 'Jacks return a total of 23 starters from last season, including 11 with starting experience on the offensive side of the ball, nine on defense and three specialists. A total of 48 letter winners return for SFA's 2018 campaign, including All-Southland Conference Second Team selections junior wide receiver Tamrick Pace (Brownsboro, Texas) and junior safety Alize Ward (San Diego, Calif.) and All-Southland honorable mention honorees senior defensive tackle Lamont Alexander (Nolanville, Texas) and junior offensive lineman Devonte Jones (Houston, Texas). The 'Jacks will also have 33 newcomers on its squad come this fall, including 14 who are already on campus and will participate in team activities this spring.
