
Bowling Hosts Fourth Annual Stormin’ Ladyjack Classic this Weekend in Houston

Ladyjacks host 16 of the top 25 teams in the nation in loaded tournament field, including each of the top five and eight of the top 10
HOUSTON, Texas – The Copperfield Bowl in Houston will serve as the site of Stephen F. Austin bowling's 2018 Stormin' Ladyjack Classic, held Friday-Sunday, Feb. 16-18 at the Copperfield Bowl in Houston. It will mark the fourth consecutive year the Ladyjacks have hosted the highly-competitive event.
Eighteen teams will converge on the center for the three-day competition, 16 of which are ranked nationally according to the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 25 coaches poll. In fact, each of the nation's top five teams and eight of the top 10 will be bowling in Houston this weekend.
Joining seventh-ranked SFA at the Copperfield Bowl are fellow Southland Bowling League members No. 3 Arkansas State, fourth-ranked Vanderbilt, No. 5 Sam Houston State, ninth-ranked Tulane and No. 19 Louisiana Tech. The remainder of the tournament field includes top-ranked Nebraska, defending national champion McKendree University, No. 8 Maryland-Eastern Shore, 11th-ranked Adelphi, No. 13 UAB, 16th-ranked LIU Brooklyn, No. 17 North Carolina A&T, 18th-ranked Duquesne, No. 20 Wisconsin-Whitewater, 22nd-ranked Maryville University, Bethune-Cookman and St. Francis College (N.Y.).
Pool play will begin Friday, Feb. 16 at 9:35 a.m. with five, five-game Baker matches, followed by five traditional team matches Saturday, Feb. 17. Start time for Saturday's final pool play matches is scheduled for 9:25 a.m. Bracket play to determine teams' final standings will conclude the tournament Sunday, Feb. 18 with three best 4-of-7 Baker matches. Pinfall total from each team's first 10 matches will determine seeding for Sunday's bracket play, which will get underway at 8:30 a.m.
With pool play pairings already set, the Ladyjacks will face eighth-ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore in its first match Friday, followed by No. 13 UAB, second-ranked McKendree, No. 22 Maryville University and St. Francis College (N.Y.).
McKendree University won the 2017 version of the tournament, while North Carolina A&T captured the event title in 2016 and LIU Brooklyn was the 2015 Stormin' Ladyjack Classic champion. SFA has placed fourth at its home tournament twice (2015 and 2017), and finished seventh in 2016 with a 10-4 mark. The Ladyjacks' best game average at the Stormin' Ladyjack Classic came in 2015 when SFA posted a score of 206.4 per game in 14 total matches and compiled a 9-5 record. SFA averaged an even 202 per game a year ago and claimed 13,535 total pins with an 8-5 record.
The all-tournament team will be comprised of five of the top six individual bowlers from Saturday's traditional team play plus the MVP, who will be the individual standings leader.
This year marks the second-largest tournament field after hosting a total of 23 teams in 2017.
