Antonio Ruiz Named Southland Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week

Ruiz earns second weekly honor, team's fourth
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin men's track and field athlete Antonio Ruiz has earned his second Southland Conference Field Athlete of the Week accolade, per a release from the conference office on Wednesday. Ruiz, a junior, was also named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week on January 24th, along with SFA sprinter Drake Murphy.
While the rest of the SFA Track and Field team spent the day at the Howie Ryan Invitational in Houston, Texas, Ruiz competed alone at the Don Kirby Invitational in New Mexico. The Tomball, Texas native was the top collegiate finisher in the pole vault with a Southland-best mark of 5.40m (17'-8.50").
Murphy earned Honorable Mention for his performance on the week, which included breaking the program record in the 800m with a time of 1:52.45. Daniel Shelton of Houston Baptist was named the Men's Track Athlete of the week.
SFA has completed its 2018 regular season and will now head to the 2018 Southland Conference Indoor Track and field Championships in Birmingham, Ala. from Feb. 21-22.
