FRISCO, Texas - For the third time in his collegiate career and the first time in 2018-19, SFA men's basketball junior Kevon Harris has earned the title of Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The league made the announcement Monday afternoon in a press release.
The 'Jacks' most consistent player during their recent two-game stretch in Belfast, Northern Ireland at the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic, Harris helped SFA post the program's first victory on international soil which happened to be a victory that signaled a major program milestone.
Friday against San Francisco Harris poured in a team-high 18 points in an SFA setback to what was then one of only 18 undefeated NCAA Division I squads on the scene in 2018-19.
The following day against Milwaukee, Harris turned in game-highs in both points (15) and rebounds (10) to help the 'Jacks defeat Milwaukee. In that tilt, Harris notched the first double-double of the season by an SFA player and for his efforts during the week he was named to the 2018 Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic Goliath Bracket All-Tournament Team. SFA's victory over Milwaukee marked the 1,500th win in program history for the 'Jacks, too. Over the two-game stretch, Harris averaged 16.5 points, seven rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 46.4-percent from the field.
For the week, SFA went 1-1 and as of this writing Harris ranks second on the team and 18th in the Southland in scoring at a clip of 12.3 points per game. The Ellenwood, Ga., product's rebounding average of 6.3 per game leads SFA and is the ninth-highest in the Southland, too.
Harris and the rest of the 'Jacks return to action Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. inside William R. Johnson Coliseum when SFA hosts Louisiana Tech for the first time in nearly 20 years. The tilt between the 'Jacks (5-2) and Bulldogs (5-3) will be televised nation-wide on ESPN+ and the ESPN app.
