NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women's soccer team will look to take a big step towards punching its ticket to the Southland Conference Tournament with a pair of home matchups this weekend. The 'Jacks will face Incarnate Word on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Abilene Christian at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Both games are set to be played at Nacogdoches High School due to heavy rainfall this week in Nacogodoches, which has saturated the SFA Soccer Field.
The Ladyjacks (3-7-3, 1-4-3 SLC) are currently on the outside looking in at the Southland Conference Tournament field, and Friday's opponent Incarnate Word (2-10-1, 2-5-1 SLC) finds themselves in a similar position, sitting one point ahead of the 'Jacks in ninth place.
Live stats for both games are available at the links above, with in-game updates available on Twitter (@SFA_Soccer).
For the 'Jacks, an opportunity to gain some much-needed points presents itself against the Cardinals, who have allowed a conference-high 2.43 goals per game this season. SFA's offense has seen improvements in amount of scoring chances generated since switching to a 4-3-3 formation, and SFA outshot both Louisiana foes last weekend by healthy margins. Converting those attempts to goals has been another story for SFA, although some misfortune has had a role in why the team has just eight goals to its name this season. A trio of Ladyjacks (Sophia Fondren, Katelyn Termini, Mari Gillespie have five points apiece to lead the team this season.
At Incarnate Word, first-year head coach Emma Wright-Cates has the Cardinals in the mix for a tournament berth in her first season at the helm, despite owning a 2-10-1 record overall this season. Taylor Husfeld leads the team in goals (2) and points (4), while five other Cardinals have also scored a goal. In goal, a trio of keepers have combined to boast a .730 save percentage, with Sydney Huntsinger's mark of .814 in eight starts buoying the platoon's numbers. Huntsinger has allowed 11 goals for a 1.44 GAA, making 48 saves and being charged with both of UIW's wins this season. In seven matchups with the Cardinals, the 'Jacks have posted a 4-2-1 record, including four consecutive victories.
Sunday's matchup with Abilene Christian (9-5-1 overall, 4-3-1 SLC) will see the 'Jacks look to avenge a regular season loss at Abilene last season, although the most recent matchup between the two was a double-overtime draw in the 2017 Southland Conference Tournament. The Wildcats have allowed the fewest goals of any Southland team this season, with just 11 conceded this season, and have tallied 13 goals in conference play this season while surrendering just six goals to opponents. ACU was last in action on Sunday, thrashing Lamar 3-0 to settle into the fifth spot in the conference standings. 2017 Southland Freshman of the Year Christina Arteaga leads the Wildcats with 12 points on the season, while Dylan Owens is close behind with 11 points. In goal, Rachel Johnson has notched five shutouts and a 0.51 goals-against-average, thanks in large part to a .911 save percentage.

CAGING THE CARDINALS
SFA has won the past four matches with UIW by a combined score of 9-0, including a 4-0 victory in San Antonio last season.

ONE TIGHT RACE
Only three conference games remain for the 'Jacks, who are two points out of the eighth and final Southland Tournament berth with nine possible points remaining.
FAST TIMES AT NAC HIGH
The weekend's matches will be played at nearby Nacogdoches High School due to field conditions at SFA Soccer Field. The 'Jacks played one match at NHS last season, prevailing 2-1 over Texas State.
WINS OVER THE WILDCATS
The Ladyjacks have posted a 4-1-1 edge over Abilene Christian in the all-time series, with a loss and tie from the 2017-18 season being the only blemishes on the record.
