NCAA Dreams Cut Short for Ruiz in Pole Vault Finals

EUGENE, Ore. – The final juncture of the of national pole vault stage awaited Stephen F. Austin's sophomore Antonio Ruiz at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The vaulter faced the top 24 pole vaulters in the nation at the 2017 NCAA Division I Track and Field Championship. Ruiz, though had to bow out of the competition early in competition after failing to clear the opening height of 5.15m (16-10.75).
Ruiz has had an outstanding 2017 campaign, as he claimed a silver medal at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships and Indoor Champions, as well as cruised to seventh in the region at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. The product of Tomball, Texas hit a personal best this season of 5.52m (18-1.25) at the Tom Tellez Invitational in Houston in early May. Ruiz also clenched three individual title throughout the outdoor season.
Ruiz has turned out tremendous performances as just a sophomore. The Jack Nation can look forward to a very bright future for the pole vaulter in the years to come.
