NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Track and Field team will be heading out west to San Antonio for the Roadrunner Invitational on Friday, March 24 through Saturday, March 25. The three-day meet will take place at the Park West Athletics Complex and is hosted by the University of Texas San Antonio.
The Roadrunner Invitational will feature seven schools: UTSA, Akron, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, VCU and SFA. The first day on Thursday will feature the beginning of the decathlon and heptathlon. The men’s decathlon is slated to get underway at 12:00 p.m., and the women’s heptathlon will start at 12:30 p.m. The multi-event athletes will be back at it again starting Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. After then, the fielding events of women’s hammer and men’s shot put will get under way at 1:00 p.m. that afternoon. Men’s and women’s javelin will cap off the second day of competition and start at 5:00 p.m.
The main events will take place Saturday, March 25, with the men’s pole vault starting at 11:00 a.m., following by high jump, long jump, and discus. The running events will get underway at 2:00 p.m. with the men’s 2000-meter steeplechase. A rolling schedule will then commence for the rest of the meet, capping with the mile relay at the end of the day. There will be no preliminary rounds for each of the running events, so ever lap will count.
SFA will be traveling a team of 61 student athletes including a handful of athletes who are in the top four in the Southland Conference for their event. The SFA men’s pole vaulters claim the top four spots in the league with Noah Gilfillan, Daven Murphree, Antonio Ruiz, and Chad Horstramm. The women are tied at third with Kaylee Bizzell and Dakota Mayr. Kevin Steward and Trenton Bridges are second and third in the conference for discus and hammer throw, while Mallory Dotson and Tierra Wilson are third and fourth for the women throwers.
Madison Compass leads the conference in the women’s 800 meter group, followed by Rana Ryan with the fourth best time and Caelidh Ross in fifth. Ryan also leads the conference with her 1500-meter time last week.
Jonathon Joe has the fourth best time in the Southland for the men’s 400m. Dominique Jackson is also fourth for her 400m hurdle time, and after leading the indoor long jump for the Southland Conference, Isaiah Pittman once again finds himself at the top spot for outdoor long jump.
