Imani Nave Receives Southland Conference Athlete of the Week Selection

FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin received its second Athlete of Week honor after the team competed up north at the Air Force Team Challenge. Freshman Imani Nave has completed in only two collegiate races, and has already begun to write herself into the SFA books.
The Tomball, Texas native claimed her first collegiate individual title at the Air Force Team Challenge in the 200 meter sprint, where she crossed the line at 24.89 seconds. Later that day, Nave went on to set a new personal record in the women’s 60m dash with a time of 7.58 seconds, 0.06 seconds behind the first place finisher from Long Beach State.
In the Southland Conference standings, Nave is fifth in the conference for the 60m with her time from Colorado. She is also tied for second in the conference for the 200m with Natashia Jackson from Northwestern State.
Nave is honored along with Nicole Casper from McNeese for the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. Nathan Jones and John Lemke, also from McNeese, were selected for the Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
The SFA Track and Field team will be competing again this Friday at the Inaugural Dunamis Sports Group College Classic II in Frisco, Texas. The first event, women’s weight throw, will get under way at 11:00 a.m. After that, the Lumberjacks will be preparing for the Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 22.
