Track and Field Set To Compete Over Weekend, Open Indoor Season at Dunamis Sports Group Indoor Meet
11/30/2017 11:27:00 AM | Track & Field
DALLAS, Texas – For the second straight season, the SFA track and field teams will compete at the Dunamis Sports Group Indoor Meet when they open competition at the event this Friday. Unlike last season, however, the meet will now signal the opening of the indoor track and field season for SFA a full month and a half earlier than it began last season, after Dunamis shifted the meet to a December date this season.
A schedule of events, along with the live results page, are posted above, and can also be found on the schedule page at sfajacks.com.
SFA will travel with nearly a full complement to the Dallas Market Hall this weekend, with each group of the team set to compete except for the distance runners. About 70 members of the SFA program will travel to the meet under the guidance of head coach Phil Olson, who is in his 19th season at the helm. Friday's meet represents the earliest indoor season opener for SFA while under Olson's tenure, and will begin at noon on Friday, with events running throughout the day.
The Dunamis Sports Group Indoor meet is a combination college/high school meet, and as such will feature the majority of collegiate competition on Friday, with the men's heptathlon set to take place on Saturday. A total of 16 colleges and universities will be present at the meeting, with the majority of competitors pulling from Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.
Heading into the 2017-18 season, Olson feels confident his team is ready for the upcoming season, and points to his team's balance as a strength heading into Friday's meet and beyond.
"I'd say we're pretty balanced as a team, we don't have an area that's significantly better than the others", said Olson. "We struggled with depth last year, but this year we are competitive across the board, which is where we wanted to be. I feel really good about our competitive energy and how we've been training, so now it's just a matter of getting out there and doing it."
The meet is an opportunity for the 'Jacks to get into the swing of competition much earlier than they are accustomed to in the indoor season, and should provide them with a good debut to base further competitions on. After competing at the Dunamis, the 'Jacks will have more than a month of time to prepare for the annual Texas A&M Invitational in College Station on January 13.
