THE FIRST SERVE
• Back in Nacogdoches for the first time in almost two weeks, the Stephen F. Austin volleyball aims to continue its flawless month of October when it starts a three-match homestand by playing host to Southeastern Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.
• Fresh off a match in which it handed two-time defending Southland Conference champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi its first home conference loss since 2014, SFA is seeking its 15th consecutive triumph inside Shelton Gym. The last time the Ladyjacks suffered a setback on their home floor came on September 21, 2016, when Big 12 opponent Baylor exited the facility with a 3-1 victory. Against Southland Conference foes inside Shelton Gym, SFA has won 11 matches in a row dating back to last season. Of those matches, all but three have been decided in three sets.
• So far, SFA has yet to experience a loss in the month of October as the Ladyjacks are off to their best start in the month since posting a perfect 9-0 record during their 2015 campaign. In program history, SFA has gone undefeated in the month of October on four occasions - 2015 (9-0), 2006 (10-0), 2005 (10-0) and 1995 (9-0) - and in each of the seasons the Ladyjacks did not suffer an October loss they went on to capture a Southland Conference regular season title.
• After sitting out last Thursday's match at Incarnate Word, junior outside hitter Makenzee Hanna returned to the Ladyjacks' lineup at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and retook the top spot in the Southland Conference in terms of hitting percentage. Hailing from DeSoto, Texas, Hanna leads the 13-team conference in that statistical category with her mark of .347.
• With only three matches as a starter under her belt, freshman Anyia Williams has proven to be quite the potent weapon both on offense and defense for the Ladyjacks. A product of Cedar Hill, Texas, Williams has put forth double-digit kill efforts in all three of her starts and has also posted hitting percentages of .500 or higher in each of those tilts. Currently, her attack percentage of .523 in Southland Conference is the best mark among all league competitors.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS
• The Lady Lions' trip to Nacogdoches represents the team's only road test from Oct. 14-Oct. 28 and it is inside Shelton Gym where they will try and secure their first triumph since a 3-0 victory over Jackson State on Sept. 15. Since then, Southeastern Louisiana has dropped nine-straight contests, the latest of which was an excruciating five-set setback on its home floor in a to in-state and Southland Conference rival New Orleans. In that tilt, the Lady Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead only to see the Privateers battle back and win the final three sets.
• Southeastern Louisiana is the only team in the 13-team Southland Conference that has not won a league match in 2017 and the Lady Lions have not won a Southland Conference match in the state of Texas since September 26, 2015, when they claimed a 3-1 triumph over Houston Baptist inside Sharp Gym.
• In her second season of collegiate volleyball, Elyssa Purcell represents one of the top threats from the service line in the Southland Conference.
