FORT WORTH, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team continued its competition on day two of the ITA Texas Regional tournament at TCU on Saturday.
Sophomore Gabi Guilarte saw her time in the main draw bracket come to an end after she was defeated 6-0, 6-2 by SMU's Liza Buss in the round of 32. Fellow second-year player Nida Kamal did not fare much better against the University of Texas player Bojana Markovic. Kamal dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision in her round of 32 match.
In the consolation bracket, sophomore Darinka Tiboldi was on the wrong end of a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Rice's Savannah Durkin.
Both of the Ladyjacks' doubles teams dropped their matches, too. Matched up against SMU's Tiffany Hollebeck and Nicole Peychey, Guilarte and Kamal were on the wrong end of a hard-fought 8-6 result. Payne and Tiboldi were matched up against Baylor's Angie Shakhraichuk and Theresa Van Zyl in a round of 16 match and the Bears' tandem claimed an 8-3 win.
With their fall season in the books, the Ladyjacks will turn their attention to their spring season which is set to begin on January 19 when SFA tangles with Wichita State at 9:00 a.m. in Dallas, Texas.
