
Men’s Cross Country Finishes 17th, Women 19th at Crimson Classic on Friday

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's cross country teams both finished within the top 20 in their respective fields at the Crimson Classic on Friday. The men's team finished with 446 points to settle in at 17th out of 29 total teams, while the women's total of 425 put them at 19th out of a field of 31 teams.
Brittany Innis paced the women's team with a finish of 26th overall and a time of 21:27. Taryn Surratt finished inside the top 50 with a 49th place finish at 21:51, while Christina Hernandez finished within the top 100 runners with a 22:26 in 92nd. Fellow true freshman Elizabeth Guerra finished with a time of 22:48, followed by Kelsey Ramirez with a 24:08.
"Brittany ran really well, she finished in the top 30 again in a really big field", said SFA cross country coach Cody Clark. "The women's team was short on numbers so we didn't do as well as we would've liked."
On the men's side, Erick Rotich led the way with a 46th place finish at 25:30, while Larry Deramus came in 96th with a time of 26:19. Quinlin McGregor finished the race in 26:41 to finished 119th overall, while Evan Barron and Jeremy Rich finished within a step of each other at 127-128 with a 26:50.3 and 26:50.5, respectively. Caleb Pickett finished at 136 overall with a time of 26:56, while Pedro Flores (27:55) and John Shirk (30:46) rounded out the lineup for the Lumberjacks.
"On the men's side I thought we looked tired and a bit sluggish, so we didn't race real well", said Clark. "We've got two weeks to rest up for conference, so we've got to work some of that out during that period."
Both teams will now have time to rest and prepare for the conference championships, which will be held in Abilene, Texas on October 30th.
