Cross Country to Open Season at Home on Friday

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin cross country teams will kick off their season on Friday evening at home. This pre-conference meet will give a warm up round for the teams competing in the SLC Conference Championships that SFA will be hosting later this year.
The event will include five teams from the south and central Texas areas racing in the piney woods. The teams include SFA, University of Houston, Houston Baptist University, Sam Houston State, and University of Texas.
Two races will be completed at Pecan Park. The women’s two mile will begin at 6:45 p.m. CT, and the men’s 5K will begin at 7:10 p.m. CT
The Ladyjacks will have returners redshirt juniors Brittany Innis and Rana Ryan in the race. Both girls finished 15th and 16th, respectively, in the SLC Championships last year. SFA will also be making the collegiate debut of freshman Caelidh Ross on the home course.
On the men’s side, SFA will race the familiar faces of redshirt sophomore Matt Farina and redshirt junior Quinlin McGregor, as well as bringing back redshirt freshman Brandt Preston, to the race course.
After this weekend, the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will take part in the Rice Invite on September 9th in Houston, Texas. The men will start at 6:45 p.m. CT and the women will begin at 6:15 p.m. CT.
