NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head women’s tennis coach Jon McLaughlin has announced the hiring of Dawoud Kabli as the assistant coach of the Ladyjacks for the upcoming season.
Coming to Nacogdoches from his hometown of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Kabli brings a solid background of coaching and playing experience to SFA. From 2011-14, Kabli took to the courts as a member of the Youngstown State men’s tennis team where he totaled the most doubles wins in program history before exiting the halls of the Horizon League institution.
A standout in the classroom as well, Kabli earned a spot on the Dean’s List in each year of his undergraduate career and was a member of Lambda Pi Eta honors society. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in interpersonal communications with a minor in marketing, Kabli entered the coaching ranks as an instructor at the world-renowned Evert Tennis Academy.
From 2015-16, Kabli worked on junior development with players from all over the world that competed at the highest levels both in the United States and abroad.
Prior to the start of his collegiate playing career, Kabli had already distinguished himself as one of the premier players in Trinidad and Tobago, attaining the rank of the number one senior national player in the country in 2011. In that same year, he won the Trinidad National Tennis Championship by besting the defending national champion 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the finals. By teaming with his brother, Jabrille, in double action, Kabli also took home the doubles crown in that 2011 tournament.
As a result of his exceptional tennis acumen on the national scene in his home country, he represented Trinidad and Tobago for the Davis Cup and the Caribbean Games in 2011. He was ranked among the top 520 under-18 players globally by the ITF Juniors before committing to Youngstown State.
While at Stephen F. Austin, he will be pursuing his master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies.
What They’re Saying About Dawoud Kabli
Mickael Sopel | Youngstown State head men’s tennis coach: “Dawoud has a natural leadership that is extremely rare. His ability to rally people behind him and make them work hard toward the goals of the team is phenomenal. As a captain, he has always had a strong and positive influence on his teammates. He was basically already a second coach for them. I think any coach would be lucky to have him as an assistant, and I just can't wait to see what impact he will have on the college scene.”
