Doyle, Dunnigan, and Ehlert Receive All-Academic Honors

FRISCO, Texas – Three Stephen F. Austin seniors were selected among the ranks of 19 other individuals for the 2016 Southland Conference All-Academic teams. SFA was among Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, and Northwestern State who had three players each selected to this year’s All-Academic teams. Senior Amanda Doyle and senior Brooke Dunnigan were named first team honorees, while senior Lillie Ehlert received second team honors, the league announced on Wednesday afternoon.
All three Ladyjacks have had previous awards for their academic endeavors. This is Doyle’s and Dunnigan’s third time to crack the All-Academic list, and Ehlert’s second time on the list.
Dunnigan, a native of Round Rock, Texas (Vista Ridge HS), help lead SFA to a 9-2-0 finish in conference play, 13-5-0 overall. She continued to anchor a Ladyjack back line that was ranked second in the league for shut-outs (7) and for their goals against average (1.10). She was named to the 2016 All-SLC First Team and SLC All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the season. The defender was also named to the NSCAA All-Region second team several weeks ago. Dunnigan started all 18 games this season and was the Ladyjack with the most minutes on the field 1566. The senior boasts a 3.86 GPA as a food and nutrition dietetics major. She received her place on the SLC All-Academic First Team after an automatic bid from receiving a spot on the All-SLC First Team.
Doyle, also an automatic bid from the All-SLC First Team, ended the year ranked sixth for points per game (1.06). The senior from Round Rock had a balanced season ending ranked seventh in the conference for goals per game (0.44), eighth for total goals on the season (7) and for total points (17). The Carrollton native has received first team All-Academic honors last year, as well as a second team selection sophomore year. She currently owns a 3.41 GPA as a Kinesiology major.
The 2016 All-SLC Second Team Goalkeeper, Ehlert helped the Ladyjacks become one of the best defensive teams in the league. The two-time All-Academic pick finished the season leading the conference in shutouts (7) and shutouts per game (0.39). She also was ranked fourth for her goals against average (0.95), sixth for her save percentage (.814), and seventh for her 70 saves on the season. The Pflugerville native has a 3.73 GPA in nursing school.
The Southland All-Academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors, and academic advisors from each Southland University. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nomination institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
