KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced Friday the NCAA Division I Women’s Scholar All-American Teams. Stephen F. Austin’s senior defender Brooke Dunnigan was first selected for the First Team Scholar All-South Region, and then the news kept coming as she garnered a position on the prestigious Scholar All-American list as well. The Ladyjacks have not receive such an award since Kylie Louw in 2011, who later went on to play in the 2012 London Olympics.
“Brooke has been one of our most consistent performers on the field and in the classroom over her last four years,” said Head Coach Wally Crittenden. “She represents everything that is great about college athletics and taking advantage of opportunities to grow both as a student and as an athlete. Our staff is very proud of her and are privileged to share this honor with her.”
Dunnigan is one of two Texans on the Scholar All-America list and the only player from the Southland Conference on any of the three teams. The Round Rock native, who posted a 3.86 GPA in Food and Nutrition Dietetics, had a tremendous last season and outstanding career at Stephen F. Austin. She was a big part of SFA’s phenomenal third, fourth, and fifth consecutive regular season conference title run and a part of the team that built the longest conference unbeaten streak in the nation of 32 games.
After a 13-5 senior season, Dunnigan found herself a three-time First Team Academic All-SLC and First Team Southland All-Conference member. She also was selected for the Southland All-Tournament team as well as a Second Team NSCAA All-Region selection.
On the field, Dunnigan tallied her first career goal this season, as well as a career high nine shots. She led the SFA defensive line to seven shutouts and gave up the second fewest goals in the conference with only 20 goals allowed (1.10 goals against average) this season.
