SFA vs. HBU

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks have one more hurdle to cross in this 2016 Southland Conference Tournament. The championship round for the tournament will take place Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. CT. The No. 4 Houston Baptist Huskies won the upset last night against the No. 1 seed Central Arkansas to take the spot opposite the second seeded Ladyjacks. Back in September, these teams faced off in Houston, and the Ladyjacks took the game over the Huskies, 4-2.
In the semifinal match, the Ladyjacks had a heart pumping first half against McNeese, until senior Meghan Corder sunk the go ahead goal in the 42nd minute. SFA then found their stride and closed the match with a 4-2 score. Goals that night were by sophomore Breanna Moore, redshirt junior Meghan Corder, junior Julianna Echavarry, and junior Hanna Barker. Senior goalkeeper Lillie Ehlert had six saves on the night for her 13th win of the season.
The series between the two teams is favored towards SFA with a 7-1-0 record. However, in the grand scheme of things, tomorrow is all about the Tournament title itself. SFA has not won the championship round since 2012 when they beat out Lamar with a 2-1 win. Since then, the Ladyjacks have made it to the championships twice but fell short in match play. In total, the program only has three tournament titles and three NCAA post season appearances in its 21 seasons of competition. It all winds down to tomorrow afternoon.
Opening kick is set for 1:05 p.m. CT here in Corpus Christi, Texas. The game will be live streamed on ESPN3.
