Olson Announces 2017 Track and Field Meet Schedule

2017 SFA Track and Field Schedule
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The 2017 Stephen F. Austin track and field schedule has been officially release, head coach Phil Olson announced on Monday afternoon.
“The 2017 Indoor and Outdoor schedule is somewhat similar to what we have done and where we have been in years past. We open up indoors at Texas A&M,” said Head Coach Phil Olson. The A&M Team Invitational is set for January 14th. The Lumberjacks then go to the Samford Indoor Multi a week later in Birmingham, Alabama. SFA will take two trips to Houston this year with the Houston Invitational at the end of January and the Howie Ryan Invitational on February 10th. Coach Olson is very excited about reboot of the Dunamis Sports Group College Classic, hosted by Dallas Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones, in the Star Complex. “As well as, this is the first time that we will be taking an elite group to the Air Force Academy for a team challenge” on February 3rd.
The Southland Conference Indoor Championships will be held this year on February 22nd -23rd in Birmingham, Ala. After that the NCAA Championships will be on March 10th-11th.
The Lumberjacks then turn around on March 14th to start the outdoor season. “As far as outdoors goes, it is fairly similar to what we have done in years past, though this is the first time we have been up to TCU in awhile. We will be travelling back down to UTSA [March 24th-25th], because we have had very good success there last year,” Olson went on. Then Stephen F. Austin will be making its appearance once again at the biggest meet in the state of Texas, the Texas Relays, at the end of March.
“Of course, we also have our home meet, the Skecher’s Carl Kight Invitational April 6th, 7th, and 8th. That will be a big meet for us. We then go back to Baylor for the Michael Johnson Invitational, and our culminating meet before the conference championships will be at Texas State University, which will give us a final opportunity to look at our team before the conference championship in New Orleans,” said Olson.
The Southland Conference Outdoor Championships are set for May 12th-14th. Then, SFA will travel back to Austin, Texas for the NCAA Preliminary Rounds on May 25th-28th. The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held in Eugene, Ore. on June 7th – 10th.
