Cross Country heads to South Central Region Championships

2016 South Central Regional Championships

Women’s 6k- 11:00 a.m. CT • Men’s 10K – 12:00 p.m. CT
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Cross Country teams will be running for a National Qualifying position in the South Central Regional Meet held in Fayetteville, Ark. University of Arkansas is hosting the meet at their on-campus course named the Agri Park. It is one of the view universities in North America with its own dedicated cross country course. The first event at the Park was in 1996, and hasn’t changed much until the addition of the 6,000 meter course in 2000.
Twenty-nine schools will be represented on Friday in two different races. The women’s will be running a 6K starting at 11:00 a.m. CT, and the men will run a 10K at 12:00 p.m. CT. The teams competing in the Regional are:

Head Coach Cody Clark has six men traveling with him. Southland Conference Champion and two-time National Qualifier, senior Charles Mathenge will be looking for his third national bid. Redshirt freshman Brandt Preston and senior Josh Torres, who finished second and third for the team last week, will be in the hunt for a qualifying spot. Other runners for SFA are redshirt junior Quinlin McGregor, redshirt junior Topper Markham, and redshirt sophomore Larry Deramus.
On the women’s side, the 2016 conference champions will once again be lead by redshirt junior Taylor Anderson and senior Samantha Ottman. SLC Freshman of the Year, Taryn Surratt will be in the mix, as well as senior Mary Luster. Other Ladyjacks competing are freshman Claire Crone, redshirt junior Rana Ryan, and junior Brittany Innis.
