Southland Conference Release
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s soccer team was represented on both teams of the 2016 Southland Conference postseason awards on Tuesday afternoon.
First Team All-Conference honors went to senior Brooke Dunnigan, junior Hanna Barker, senior Amanda Doyle, and sophomore Breanna Moore. Senior Lillie Ehlert and senior Kelly Ann Craig were chosen as SFA’s representatives on the Second Team, and sophomore Bailey Bolsey was chosen for the Honorable Mention list.
Barker also received individual recognition as Midfielder of the Year for her contributions to a well-rounded Ladyjack offensive attack. She continued her stellar career, being a two-time All-Conference selection and Freshman of the Year in 2014. Barker had a tremendous season scoring nine goals on the season, including her first career hat trick. She leads the conference in assists and assists per game (10/0.62) and ranks second for points (28) and points per game (1.75). Barker has four game-winning goals this year from her 44 shots. Barker started all 16 games and was a dynamic player on the front line.
“It is always great when your players are recognized for their performances by your opposition,” said Head Coach Wally Crittenden. “There is no greater compliment. We have great teams, players, and coaches in this league and to have this many of our players get recognition is very special. I also think there are players who are not on this list who have performed well enough to be recognized, though I am sure every coach would say that about their players.”
This is Dunnigan and Doyle’s third consecutive season receiving All-Conference selections. Dunnigan, a native of Round Rock, once again had a solid year at center back for the Ladyjacks. She anchored the SFA back line that ranked second in the SLC for goals allowed (17), goals against average (1.05), and shutouts this season (7). She started all 16 games and holds 1386 game minutes this season, the most on the team.
Doyle, a product of Carrollton, Texas, has seven goals this season and three assists. She has two game-winning goals, tied for fifth in the league. Doyle is also ranked seventh for goal made this season (7) and fourth for goals per game (0.50)
Moore received her first nod from the All-Conference selections this year. The recently chosen offensive player of the week for her hat trick against Sam Houston, is ranked fifth in the conference for game-winning goals. Moore has been a big part of the quick SFA offense that has scored 38 goals this season.
SFA’s two second-teamers are also repeat selections as Ehlert was a Second-Team selection last year and Craig was an Honorable Mention. Ehlert was a big part of this squad in starting all 16 games and playing over 1333 minutes in the net. The Pflugerville native has 62 saves this season and seven shutouts, giving Ehlert a top of the conference finish with a 0.44 shutouts per game average. While, Craig, another part of the SFA defensive backbone, has also started all 16 games and has three assists to her resume. The most recent being the assist to Doyle for the tying goal in the Abilene Christian game.
Bosley was the seventh Ladyjack honored in this year’s selections. Her honorable mention title comes from 1225 minutes and 16 starts as the SFA right back. The product of Spring, Texas, has a single assist on the season in the McNeese game to seal the game at a 2-0 lead for SFA.
“What is exceptional about this team, this year, is the competitive character and leadership from out entire roster and the fact that they all appreciate each other and everyone’s contribution toward a common goal. I can’t wait to see our team take the field this week in Corpus and see how we continue to build on this year’s performances,” said Crittenden.
Voting for the 2016 all-conference teams and awards was conducted by the league’s 12 head coaches and each program’s respective sports information director. Both the first and second teams were comprised of three forwards, defenders, and midfielders, one goalkeeper and one at-large position. The major awards were voted on separately.
SFA will next be in action on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. CT in the semifinals of the 2016 Southland Conference Tournament held in Corpus Christi, Texas. The second seeded Ladyjacks play the winner of the number three/six matchup between Northwestern State and McNeese. The championship match is set for Sunday at 1:05 p.m. CT.
