Kansas City, Mo. – For the seventh straight year, the Stephen F. Austin women’s soccer team has been honored with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Women’s Team Academic Award, as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon. The award serves as recognition to the 2015-2016 Ladyjack squad, who posted a combined 3.42 grade point average last year.
The NSCAA annually recognizes college and high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the field. To be eligible for the award, a team must attain a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). A total of 892 soccer teams (314 men, 578 women) achieved the standard last year to warrant the academic accolade.
SFA was one of just four women’s soccer programs from the Southland Conference to make the grade, joining Abilene Christian, Nicholls State, and Houston Baptist University.
The Ladyjacks once again received a host of scholastic honors this past season. Senior forward Carolina Orsi was named for the Capital One Academic All-American First Team. She boasts an impressive 4.0 GPA as a kinesiology major at SFA.
Senior defender Brooke Dunnigan led the conference by being named the SLC Student-Athlete of the Year for 2015 for her success on the pitch and in the classroom. SFA received All-Academic First Team nods for Orsi, Dunnigan, and senior midfielder Amanda Doyle. Senior defender Kelly Ann Craig, senior Lillie Ehlert, and former Ladyjack midfielder Rachel Owens received spots on the All-Academic Second Team.
Crystal Calvit, Amanda Fox, Lauren Hall, Jasmine White, and Orsi each registered perfect 4.0 marks during the 2015 fall semester. In total, 19 Ladyjack soccer players made the 2015 Fall Commissioner’s Honor Roll with GPAs at or above a 3.0.
