NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's cross country teams will open the 2015 season on Friday evening at the SFA Lumberjack Opener - a dual meet with Southland Conference foe Northwestern State. The two schools will compete at Pecan Acres City Park in Nacogdoches.
The women will start things off with a two mile race at 7:00 p.m. and the men will follow at 7:30 p.m. with a 5k race. Unattached individuals are invited to compete.
"The home meet on Friday will be a great way to kick off the season," said cross country coach Cody Clark. "We are all looking forward to getting back after it this year and it all starts with the dual meet against Northwestern State. It'll be somewhat of a practice meet for us and a way for us to start to get an idea of where we are with some of our athletes."
Pecan Acres City Park is located on East Starr Avenue, a half mile west of University Drive and just across the street from the SFA intramural fields. Parking will be available in the front of the park, just off of East Starr. Admission to the event is free of charge and spectators are encouraged to attend.
The SFA men's and women's cross country teams are coming off two second place finishes at the 2014 Southland Conference Championsips held last year on Northwestern State's campus. The 'Jacks return all of their point scorers from that meet.
