Southland Conference Release
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - After playing a role in each of the Stephen F. Austin women's scocer team's five goals over its two league wins last week, junior midfielder Amanda Doyle has been named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. It is the first SLC weekly soccer honor for SFA in 2015.
Doyle is coming off a breakout week for the Ladyjacks, scoring four goals and adding an assist to lead her team to home SLC wins against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist. She assisted on the game winner before finding the back of the net twice herself in Friday night's 3-0 result against the Islanders, and punched in two more goals during Sunday afternoon's 2-1 thriller against the Huskies.
With the game tied and just under 10 minutes to play against HBU, Doyle powered a header past the keeper for the eventual game winner - her first of the season. Overall during the two matches, Doyle took seven shots and turned all four of her attempts on target into goals. She played 146 minutes, including a full 90 against the Huskies.
After SFA's first three league games this year, Doyle has five goals and one assist for 11 points. The total is the most in the conference through the first two weeks of SLC play. The Carrollton native (Hebron H.S.) has had a hand in each of the Ladyjacks' six league goals.
Doyle and her SFA teammates will hit the road for two games this week, starting with Lamar on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The second place Ladyjacks (2-0-1 SLC) will then travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana for a matchup with McNeese State on Sunday starting at 1:00 p.m.
