2014-15 NSCAA College Team Academic Award Recipients
All-Time List
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the sixth straight year, the Stephen F. Austin women’s soccer team has been honored with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Women’s Team Academic Award, as announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon. The award serves as recognition to the 2014-15 Ladyjack squad, which posted a 3.25-combined grade point average last year.
The NSCAA annually recognizes college and high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the field. To be eligible for the award, a team must attain a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). A total of 859 soccer teams (306 men, 553 women) achieved the standard last year to warrant the academic accolade.
SFA was one of just four women’s soccer programs from the Southland Conference to make the grade, joining Houston Baptist, Lamar and Nicholls.
The Ladyjacks received a host of scholastic honors last season. Former goalkeeping standout Morgan Glick was named a Second Team Capital One Academic All-American after both she and Megan Dunnigan were awarded places on the organization’s academic all-district team last October.
Glick and Dunnigan also highlighted SFA’s selections onto the SLC All-Academic teams following the season. Junior defender Brooke Dunnigan joined the duo on the first team while junior midfielder Amanda Doyle garnered second team attention. Glick also represented SFA as the 2014 SLC Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year for her success on the pitch and in the classroom.
Megan Dunnigan, Lillie Ehlert, Amanda Fox and Carolina Orsi each registered perfect 4.0 marks during the 2014 fall semester to give the women’s soccer team more such individuals than any other SFA team during the span. In total, 16 Ladyjack soccer players made the 2014 Fall Commissioner’s Honor Roll with GPAs at or above a 3.0.
SFA won’t have to miss any class time this week with two home games against Southland opponents. The Ladyjacks will cross paths with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. before clashing with Houston Baptist on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at SFA Soccer Field.
