Ladyjacks Split Tulsa Five-Setters

TULSA, Okla. – Stephen F. Austin played a pair of challenging five-set matches at the Tulsa Hurricane Classic, splitting the result. SFA rallied past host Tulsa 3-2 in the morning match before seeing Southern Illinois return the favor, rallying to win 3-2 later in the day.
With the pair of matches, SFA now sits at 6-4 on the season while its six-match winning streak was snapped by the Salukis.
In the opening match, the Ladyjacks fell to the Golden Hurricane 25-19 and 25-20, sitting one set away from a loss. SFA outlasted Tulsa 25-23 in set three to keep the match alive, then won a back-and-forth 25-20 set four. Trailing 8-6 at the switch in set five, SFA used a 6-1 run to take a 12-9 lead before claiming the match with a 15-10 fifth-set victory.
Jacque Allen and Haley Coleman paced the Ladyjack attack as the duo each recorded 14 kills on the night as Allen hit .335. Coleman recorded a double-double, finishing with 12 digs, helping pace SFA to a .227 team hitting percentage.
Abby McIntyre also had a strong showing for SFA, finishing with 12 kills and six digs for the Ladyjacks. Justice Walker and Tori Bates both recorded nine kills each with Walker adding a team-high four blocks. OJ Olson led the way defensively with 28 digs while McKenzie Brewer posted 30 assists for SFA, playing the final three sets of the match.
Playing in the early evening match later in the day, SFA fell behind early to Southern Illinois, dropping a 25-16 decision in set one. The Ladyjacks responded with a 25-19 win in set two, followed by a 25-22 set three victory, taking control of the match at 2-1. But the Salukis bounced back with a 25-18 win in set four and never trailed in the decisive fifth, defeating SFA 15-10 to clinch the match.
Coleman once again led the Ladyjacks with her second double-double of the day, finishing with a team-high 17 kills and 12 digs. Walker added 13 kills for SFA with a pair of blocks.
Allen and Bates both finished the match with eight kills each as Allen led the way defensively with six blocks for the Ladyjacks. McIntyre added six kills for SFA.
The Ladyjacks return to the court at the Reynolds Center in Tulsa for their final match of the 2015 Hurricane Classic. SFA takes to the court at 10:30 a.m., facing Arkansas State, as live stats will be available at TulsaHurricane.com.
