FORT WORTH, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s soccer team earned a 0-0 draw against a solid TCU side on Sunday evening at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in what was the Ladyjacks’ lone exhibition contest of the preseason.
“Overall, TCU was a very good test for our entire roster,” said head coach Wally Crittenden. “We were able to play everyone in either their primary or secondary positions and get a really good feel for our depth against a good, physical team that was really well-defined heading into their second exhibition game.
“There were some things we did very well and of course some things we will work on this week in preparation for Arkansas. At the end of the day, until you square up with a live opponent and have to make choices on your own, you don’t really know how players will respond. Tonight was a great first indicator as to how our kids will respond when challenged. There is no doubt we are better prepared for the fall following this game.”
The SFA defense, which ranked sixth in the nation in shutout percentage (.650) last year, looked strong in its first true test of the 2015 season. Redshirt sophomore Lillie Ehlert and freshman Allyson Smith combined for the shutout in goal for the Ladyjacks.
SFA will now have four days of practice before beginning the regular season on the road against Arkansas on Friday evening. Opening kick is set for 7:00 p.m.
