
Aspillaga Named Head Coach at UTEP

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head women’s tennis coach Roberto Aspillaga has announced his resignation, being named the head women’s coach at the University of Texas- El Paso.
Aspillaga spent two seasons at SFA, guiding the Ladyjacks to back-to-back SLC tournament appearances. Aspillaga guided the ‘Jacks to a 16-7 record in 2015, including a 10-1 mark in Southland play to give SFA its second league championship in program history. Vivienne Kulicke went undefeated in conference play under his watch, and was named the SLC Freshman of the Year.
In 2014, SFA went 12-11 overall and 7-5 in conference play, advancing to the tournament semifinals. Malena Gordo and Julia Lorca picked up second team All-SLC doubles honors, playing the number one position for the Ladyjacks.
“We want to thank Roberto for everything he did for our tennis program during his time at SFA,” said Athletic Director Robert Hill. “He helped raise the bar for our women’s tennis program, capturing a conference championship this past season, and we wish him the best as he pursues this new opportunity.”
SFA will immediately begin the process of finding a new women’s tennis coach.
