NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- On the day where college baseball and the MLB merge together, right-handed pitcher Cameron Gann was selected with the first pick of the 27th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is the seventh player chosen in the draft under head coach Johnny Cardenas.
Gann started 13 games for the Lumberjacks in 2015, finishing with a 4-3 record and 2.87 ERA through 87.2 innings. The senior limited opponents to a .248 batting average and struck out a team-high 72 batters. The Crandall, Texas, native is second on SFA's all-time wins list (19) and third in program history in strikeouts (195).
A four-year letterwinner, Gann became the first Lumberjack baseball player drafted since Hunter Dozier was selected eighth overall in 2013, and the first Lumberjack selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in school history. His 27th-round selection is the ninth highest among all SFA draftees, while 17 total Lumberjacks have had their name called on draft day.
SFA finished 2015 with a 17-34 record, including an 11-18 mark in Southland Conference play.
