Complete Women's Academic All-District Teams
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin's Courtney High has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Seven First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Friday afternoon.
A sophomore distance runner from Inez, Texas, High helped SFA win both the indoor and outdoor Southland Conference track and field team titles in 2015 while also leading the Ladyjacks to a runner-up finish at the SLC Cross Country Championships in November. She was named Second Team All-SLC in cross country after finishing sixth at the conference meet. Her 21:01 mark in the women's 6,000m race was the best on the squad.
During the track and field seasons, High earned points for the Ladyjacks in three events at the SLC Championship meets. Most recently at the outdoor championships in Hammond, Louisiana, High placed fourth in the women's 10,000m run and took seventh at the 5,000m distance. Combined between the two top-eight finishes, she contributed seven valuable points to the women's championship total.
High has also excelled in the classroom, boasting a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA as a food and nutrition dietetics major during the 2014-15 athletic seasons. At SFA's Champions Dinner banquet held in early May, she was the track and field/cross country Murray Shaw Academic Award recipient for the best GPA on the team.
High will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in late June.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
