
Multi-Event Athletes Compete at Rice

HOUSTON, Texas - Three Stephen F. Austin track and field athletes are in the thick of the competition at Rice University's Shirley Crowe Multi-Events Meet held Tuesday and Wednesday. The small meet in Houston showcases some of the best women's heptathlon and men's decathlon athletes in the area.
After the first day of action, sophomore Madeline Kaufmann is in fourth place in the women's heptathlon with 2,733 points. In the four events on Tuesday, she collected 783 points in the 100 meter hurdles (15.45 seconds), 689 points in the high jump (1.56m), 533 points in the shot put (10.06m) and 728 points in the 200 meter dash (26.81 seconds).
Kaufmann, who took third in the 2015 Southland Conference Indoor Championships in the women's pentathlon, is just 64 points back of Harvard's Allison Morrison for third place entering Wednesday's final three events. The women will pick things back up at 2:00 p.m. with the long jump before wrapping up with the javelin and the 800 meter run.
On the men's side in the decathlon, Cody Rhodes and Hunter Key are ninth and 10th, respectively, after the first day of competition. The duo will look to move up the standings on Wednesday with the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meter run yet to take place. The first group of athletes will open up with the 110 meter hurdles at 10:00 a.m.
The rest of the SFA track and field team will start the 2015 outdoor season on Thursday in the 2015 John Mitchell Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa.
