Complete NSCAA All-Central Region Teams
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Stephen F. Austin women’s soccer team was represented with two selections on the 2015 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I Women’s All-Central Region Teams on Friday morning. Midfielder Amanda Doyle was selected to the second team and defender Brooke Dunnigan landed a spot on the third team.
The two juniors’ first all-region honors marks the fifth straight year that SFA has been represented with multiple selections on the regional teams.
Coaches in the NSCAA’s Central Region – consisting of schools from the Big 12, Conference USA, Southland and SWAC – voted players to the three teams. Twelve players were picked for the first team and the second and third squads were each comprised of 11 student-athletes.
Doyle and Dunnigan each had terrific seasons in 2015, helping the Ladyjacks go 8-1-2 in SLC play to win the program’s fifth consecutive regular season championship. Both players were selected to the 2015 All-Southland Conference First Team following the season.
Doyle, a product of Carrollton, Texas (Hebron HS), used a breakout junior season to warrant 2015 SLC Player of the Year honors. She ended the year ranked third in the league in goals (7), fourth in points (17) and game-winning goals (2), and was fifth in assists (3) during conference play. Doyle either scored or assisted on SFA’s first seven goals of the SLC season in 2015 and was named the SLC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29.
Dunnigan, a native of Round Rock, Texas (Vista Ridge HS), anchored an SFA back line that ranked first in the SLC in goals allowed (5), goals against average (0.43) and shutouts (6) during league play. The center back helped the Ladyjacks post four straight clean sheets heading in to the final SLC match. She started all 19 games in her junior campaign and was the only SFA player to play every single minute of the season. Dunnigan earned a spot on the 2015 SLC All-Tournament Team for her solid defending in Conway, Arkansas at the end of the year.
Coming back as seniors next year, Doyle and Dunnigan will look to lead a strong returning group for the Ladyjacks in 2016. The team will begin their spring exhibition schedule in March while the official fall season is set to begin during the first part of August.
