NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team rounded its seven-member class of 2016 recruits on Tuesday morning when head coach Debbie Humphreys announced that 5-10 outside hitter Corin Evans would be joining the Ladyjacks next season.
“Corin is an amazing two-sport athlete who has a tremendous upside in the sport of volleyball,” said Humphreys. “She is strong, jumps well and moves well. She also brings a power game, but also has lots of shots that will frustrate our opponents. We are looking forward to helping Corin take her game to the next level.”

Through three years of pre-collegiate duty, Evans has established herself as one of the premier volleyball and girls basketball student-athletes in the Houston metro area.
In the volleyball realm, Evans saw her name listed on a pair of top-50 publications that included the Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association’s Fab 50 and Vype Magazine’s top 50 best female athletes in the Houston area. Setting up shop at the pin has produced some superb individual accolades that include District MVP and All-District honors.
The high school basketball career submitted by Evans is an enviable one, too. As a freshman, she captured the title of District Newcomer of the Year and went on to collar First Team All-District, District MVP, District Offensive MVP and Academic All-District honors. Perhaps her most significant basketball-related achievement was being on the receiving end of a Max Preps Player of the Year citation.
Evans' mother, Susan Acker, is no stranger to Stephen F. Austin. A basketball and track & field star with the Ladyjacks, she won a national championship in the 800-meter dash and closed her career as the program’s record holder in the event – a record that still stands to this day.
Evans joins Danae Daron, Shayla Eagleton, Ann Hollas, Kirsten (KK) Payne, Julia Whitehead and Xariah Williams as the newest additions to the Ladyjacks’ volleyball program. All will be set to compete in the fall of 2016.
Humphreys is set to lead the 2015 edition of the Ladyjacks to Conway, Ark., as the number-three seed in the eight-team Southland Conference Tournament. Once in Conway, SFA will begin its tournament run with a quarterfinal matchup against sixth-seeded Houston Baptist at 4 p.m. in the Farris Center on the campus of Central Arkansas.
