SLC Names Allen Defensive Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – As a result of a trio of performances that allowed the Stephen F. Austin volleyball team to keep its 20-match regular season Southland Conference unbeaten streak alive, senior middle blocker Jacque Allen took home SLC Women’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Hailing from Mansfield, Texas, Allen amassed 19 total rejections – five solo stuffs and 14 block assists for an average of 1.46 per set – during SFA’s 3-0 week which included a pair of come-from-behind conference triumphs.
Trailing 2-1 at Incarnate Word on Thursday night and 2-0 at Abilene Christian on Saturday, Allen and her teammates were able to come all the way back to win both matches by tallies of 3-2.
Along the way, she moved into second place on SFA's career solo blocks list. She has 78 solo blocks and also sits in ninth place both blocks assists (308) and total blocks (384) on the Ladyjacks' all-time charts. In a sweep over Prairie View A&M on Tuesday night, Allen slammed down 12 kills on 14 swings while committing zero errors for an attack percentage of .857 in the match. That stands as the third-best single-match mark in the SFA program history.
The total output of offense for Allen was 30 kills (2.31 per set) on a hitting percentage of .350 during the three-match set. Only four other student-athletes in the Southland Conference possess a higher attack percentage than Allen’s mark of .330 this season.
Allen and the rest of the Ladyjacks are set to star in one of the premier Southland Conference bouts of the week when Thursday evening comes about. In its first home match of October, SFA will do battle with the only other SLC squad who has not suffered a conference loss in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (16-4, 4-0 SLC). Thursday night’s 6:30 p.m. skirmish for first place in the league standings will also signify the Ladyjacks’ Dig for the Cure match where fans will receive free pink t-shirts distributed by Zeta Tau Alpha.
