
SFA Opens 2015 Hosting Midwestern State

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis team will open the 2015 slate hosting Midwestern State in a 4 p.m. match on Saturday at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
The Ladyjacks enter their second season under the guidance of head coach Roberto Aspillaga. Last season, SFA finished 12-11 overall and 7-5 in Southland Conference play. The Ladyjacks entered the 2014 SLC Tournament as the fifth-seed and advanced to the semifinals, posting a 1-1 mark in the postseason.
SFA returns five letterwinners from last season, highlighted by seniors Malena Gordo and Julia Lorca. The tandem took home All-Southland Conference second team doubles honors in 2014. The Ladyjacks also return junior Valeria Terentyeva and sophomores Macarena Sedano Acosta and Denise Maxl.
SFA welcomes transfer Dhanielly Quevedo (Junior/Caracas, Venezuela) and Vivienne Kulicke (Freshman/Hamburg, Germany) to the fold for the 2015 SLC race.
Following Saturday, the Ladyjacks will begin preparation for a pair of matches in Denton, Texas. SFA will play Dallas Baptist at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, before facing North Texas at 2 p.m.
