NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin cross country head coach Cody Clark today released the Lumberjacks' 2014 schedule, which gets underway in just over one week.
• 2014 SFA Cross Country Schedule
"We're excited for this upcoming season as the schedule should provide us a great challenge," Clark said. "We're running in some of the top meets and will provide a strong test. For the men, hopefully the opportunity to run in the NCAA Pre-National meet will help us get points for a national championship at large berth. On the women's side, we had lots of freshmen that are now sophomores and we've seen that maturity process. We're setting ourselves up for another strong finish and hopefully finish among the top-10 at regionals."
SFA opens up the season on Friday, August 29th in College Station, taking part in the Aggie Opener to kick off the 2014 season. The `Jacks will then host the Lumberjack High School Invitational on Saturday, September 6th.
A short trip to Houston is next up as SFA will compete in the Rice Invitational on Friday, September 12th, before making a return trip to College Station on Saturday, September 20th, competing in the Texas A&M Invitational.
The `Jacks open up the month of October in Fayetteville, Ark., competing in the Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday, October 4th. That leads into the NCAA Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, October 18th as the Lumberjack men will take part for the first time since 2006.
The 2014 Southland Conference Championships will be held just across the border in Natchitoches, La., on Monday, November 3rd as SFA will set its sights on a conference championship.
The NCAA South Central Regional will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday, November 14th as SFA looks to make a strong showing and qualify for the 2014 NCAA National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, November 22nd. The SFA men finished two spots away from a berth in 2013 and hope the experience gained last year will help propel them into the national meet.
SFA's cross country runners have returned back to campus, getting workouts underway earlier this week. The Lumberjack men and women will both look to improve on their SLC finishes from 2013 in which SFA finished second and third, respectively.
