NACOGDOCHES, Texas – With one victory and a runner-up performance last week, Stephen F. Austin’s Jamal Peden has been named Southland Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
Peden opened the Lumberjacks’ home meet on Friday night with a win in the long jump as he leapt 7.56 meters (24-9.75) to get the win by 5.5 inches. He backed that up with a second-place finish on day two of the Skechers Carl Kight Invitational in the triple jump.
In his first triple jump competition of the outdoor season Peden jumped 14.77 meters (48-5.50) to take second place and score a total of 18 points for the Lumberjacks in the team scored meet.
Peden’s mark in the triple jump is third in the Southland Conference this season, and he is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation in the long jump with his mark at the Texas Relays two weeks ago.
This is SFA’s second straight men’s field athlete of the week award with Colton Ross winning the honor last week for his pole vault runner-up finish at the Texas Relays.
