HOUSTON, Texas - It was another impressive weekend for the Stephen F. Austin track and field team on Saturday. This time it was the men's 4x100 meter relay team that stole the show at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight hosted by Rice.
The tandem of Hampton Hawkins, Cass Brown-Stewart, Jared Love and Trevon Caudle teamed up to cross the line in 40.70 seconds to win the 4x100.
SFA posted victories in five other events at the Duckett Twilight.
The women's 4x100 relay posted its fastest time of the season, finishing in 45.81 seconds. The Ladyjacks also won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:39.25, besting second-place UT-San Antonio by nearly six seconds.
Jamal Peden added another win in the long jump to continue his successful outdoor campaign. His jump of 7.63 meters (25-00.50) was six inches better than the runner-up. Trey Darty also had a strong showing, finishing in third place and coming up just six centimeters short of his personal best.
The Lumberjacks had six runners in the men's 400 meters and took the top three spots to dominate the event. Brown-Stewart won in 46.39 seconds. Hawkins followed with a personal best of 46.90 seconds and Josh Taylor finished third in 46.91 seconds. With their times, Hawkins and Taylor are now ranked third and fourth in the Southland while Brown-Stewart remains No. 1 in the league.
Another personal record went to the Lumberjacks as Colton Ross again soared over the highest bar in the men's pole vault. Ross cleared 5.52 meters (18-01.25) to improve on his PR by one centimeter. His mark also ranks him fifth in the NCAA this season.
The meet was the final meet of the regular season before SFA turns its attention toward the postseason. SFA will take next week off as the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will focus on training in preparation for the Southland Conference Championships in two weeks.
