NACOGDOCHES, Texas – For the second time this season Madison Johnston has been recognized as the Southland Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week following her latest performance. Johnston broke her own school record in the javelin for the second time this season at the UCA Open to receive the honor.
The Canadian dominated the field at the UCA Open with a toss of 50.06 meters (164-03) to also set a new meet record. Her throw improves her school record by just over two feet and she won the event by nearly 30 feet.
Johnston is currently the top javelin thrower in the Southland Conference and is ranked No. 23 in the NCAA.
Johnston will be competing at the oldest track meet in the nation this week as she is the lone representative from SFA at the Penn Relays. She will take on some of the nation’s best at one of the nation’s most prestigious meets on Thursday.
The rest of the SFA track and field team heads to Houston this week for the J. Fred Duckett Twilight hosted by Rice on Saturday.
