NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Shambrail Woods is the latest member of the Stephen F. Austin track and field team to be recognized for her efforts as the combined events specialist was named the Southland Conference Field Athlete of the Week for dominant performance last weekend at the UIW Invitational.
Woods crushed the field in the heptathlon winning by more than 600 points over the seven events. Her score of 5,100 points is a new personal record and puts her atop the rankings in the Southland Conference this season. The score is more than 300 points better than the No. 2 score in the league.
She posted personal bests in three of the seven events and would have had a fourth if not for a wind-aided time in the 200 meters.
Woods becomes the fifth member of the track and field team to receive an athlete of the week award during the outdoor season and the second Ladyjack.
SFA will compete at two different meets this upcoming week with the majority of the team headed to the Central Arkansas Open. A small group of distance runners will compete at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in California.
