Ladyjack Tennis Closes Fall Season

Wild West Shootout Central
DENTON, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis team concluded play at the North Texas Wild West Shootout on Sunday to close out their non-competition season.
SFA posted a combined 13-14 record over the three-day tournament at Waranch Tennis Center, finishing 11-7 in singles and 2-7 in the doubles draws. All six Ladyjacks – Malena Gordo, Julia Lorca, Denise Maxl, Dhanielly Quevedo, Macarena Sedano Acosta, Valeria Terentyeva – competed against the five-team field that included host UNT, Air Force, Colorado and Texas-Arlington. North Central Texas College had on doubles team also compete.
Maxl led SFA in singles play, winning all three of her matches to take first place in the black draw, while the Terentyeva took home second place in the same draw. Maxl defeated CU’s Ashley Tiefel (6-2, 6-1) and UTA’s Augustina Serio (6-3, 6-3), before downing teammate Terentyeva 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-2 in the championship match. Terentyeva defeated UNT’s Ana Sofia Cordero (6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-2) and UTA’s Jessica Birowski (6-3, 6-1) to advance and face Maxl.
Gordo and Lorca posted 2-1 records in their respective draws to take third place. Gordo, after dropping a 6-3, 6-3 decision to UTA’s Elizabeth Thoms, bounced back with 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-1 and 6-4, 6-4 wins over AF’s Mary Meyers and Natasha Rizvi in the green draw. Lorca picked up 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-1 wins over UTA’s Ekaterina Tugarinova and AF’s Carley Hatcliff after dropping her first match 6-0, 7-5 to AF’s Lily Forlini in the silver draw.
Sedano Acosta and Quevedo each picked up one win in the silver and white draws, respectfully.
The teams of Sedano Acosta and Maxl and Lorca and Quevedo each picked up one win in the white doubles draw, posting 1-2 records. Gordo and Terentyeva finished 0-3 in the green draw.
