Schlief Tennis Invite 
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis team concluded play at the Schlief Tennis Invite at the Schlief Tennis Complex on Sunday.
SFA posted a combined 13-6 record over the two-day tournament, finishing 11-4 in singles and 2-2 doubles draws.
The Ladyjacks fielded three teams in doubles draws, with senior Malena Gordo and junior Valeria Terentyeva and sophomores Denise Maxl and Macarena Sedano Acosta playing in the first draw and senior Julia Lorca and junior Dhanielly Quevedo representing SFA in the second draw.
The team of Gordo and Terentyeva finished in third place in the first draw, while Maxl and Sedano Acosta finished in seventh place. Lorca and Quevedo won the consolation bracket in the second draw.
After a bye, Gordo and Terentyeva fell to McNeese State’s Julia Kral and Hannah Brett, before defeating St. Mary’s Jamie Lee Denton and Kaylin Kruseman 8-6. Maxl’s and Sedano Acosta’s lone win came against Sam Houston State’s Karen Martinez and Mila Milanovic.
In the second dobles draw, Lorca and Quevedo, after dropping a 8-5 decision to
Luiza Adas and Erika Richarme, defeated SHSU’s Maddie Mortimore and Caitlyn Mitchell 8-1 and Vivien Borbely and Anastasija Trubich 8-6.
Five of SFA’s doubles participants, Gordo, Lorca, Maxl, Quevedo and Sedano Acosta, each played in singles. Gordo won all three of her matches to win the second singles draw. Sedano Acosta won two matches to take second place in the third singles, while Maxl (No. 1 Singles) and Quevedo (No. 3 Singles) each won two matches to take third place in their respective draws. Lorca, in No. 5 singles, also won two matches to win the consolation bracket.
