ABILENE, Texas – Senior Zuri Prince delivered the game-winning goal for a second-straight match, as the Stephen F. Austin women’s soccer team remained undefeated in Southland Conference play with a 1-0 edge of Abilene Christian on Sunday afternoon at Shotwell Stadium.
SFA (10-2-1, 6-0 SLC) and the Wildcats (7-7-1, 4-2-1 SLC) played 81 minutes of scoreless soccer, before Prince’s goal. The native of Beaumont, Texas, scored on an empty net after beating goalkeeper Sydney Newton (3-5) to the ball at the top of the box. The unassisted goal was the sixth of the season for Prince and ties her with fellow senior Chelsea Raymond and freshman Hanna Barker for the team lead.
With the win, the Ladyjacks improve to 6-0 in league play for the third time in the last four seasons.
Senior Morgan Glick (8-2-1) picked up her eighth win of the season against ACU, recording five saves across the full 90 minutes in the net.
SFA, despite being outshot 12-11, held a 5-5 mark in shots on goal with the Wildcats. The Ladyjacks led 6-3 on corner kicks.
Both teams played a silent first half and entered the final 10 minutes of regulation still scoreless, before Prince’s strike in the 82nd minute.
Still unblemished in SLC play, SFA will return to Nacogdoches to host Southeastern Louisiana on Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the SFA Soccer Field. Following the match with the Lady Lions, the Ladyjacks will head Nicholls on Sunday, Oct. 17.
