NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Jacque Allen recorded 11 kills and the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team remained undefeated in Southland Conference play, knocking off Southeastern Louisiana 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-16) Saturday afternoon in Shelton Gym.
Allen led an SFA (10-4, 2-0 SLC) attack that swung a .392 clip across three sets. Tori Bates finished close behind Allen, recording 10 kills, as she made her return to the court. Bates last played Aug. 31 against Southern Miss, missing the last 10 matches due to injury. Paige Holland recorded 30 assists and OJ Olson amassed 15 digs.
The win over SLU (6-8, 0-2 SLC) extends the Ladyjacks’ current winning streak to four games and matches a season-high in consecutive victories. SFA beat Troy (8/30), Jackson State (8/31), Southern Miss (8/31) and Louisiana-Monroe (9/2), to start the 2013 season.
The Ladyjacks never relinquished the lead in the first two sets, taking a 2-0 advantage into the break. Allen and Bates each recorded five kills in the opening set for SFA. The Ladyjacks shared the work load in the second set, with Justice Walker recording three kills and Kaitlyn Granger, Holland, Allen and Bates recording two kills each, respectively.
SFA found itself in its first deficit in the third set, when an attack error by Bates broke a 3-3 tie. The back-and-forth affair saw 10 ties in all in the final set. After a service ace from Olson gave the Ladyjacks a 12-11 advantage, SFA went on a 13-5 run to seal the victory.
The Ladyjacks will now step out of conference, traveling to Denton, for a match against North Texas Sept. 25.
