DENTON, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team fell 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 22-25) to North Texas in the final non-conference matchup for both teams Wednesday night in the Mean Green Volleyball Center.
SFA (10-5), having won four straight, dropped its first match since Sept. 13. The four-game win streak matched a season-high for consecutive victories, after the Ladyjacks opened the season with a 4-0 mark.
The victory for UNT (8-8) extends a win streak, in which the home team has swept the visiting opponent for a third consecutive season. The Mean Green swept SFA in Denton in 2011, before the Ladyjacks returned the favor in Nacogdoches in 2012.
Sophomore Tori Bates led SFA with 10 kills and was the only Ladyjack to finish in double-figures on the night. Sophomore Jacque Allen recorded eight kills and junior Jill Ivy finished with seven, as SFA was held to a .167 clip. Junior Paige Holland collected with 29 assists and sophomore OJ Olson recorded 12 digs across three sets.
The Ladyjacks dropped early leads in all three sets in the loss.
After arriving at a 4-4 break point in the opening set, an attack error from Ivy gave UNT an advantage at 5-4. The Mean Green never relinquished the lead and took the set 25-19.
Despite Bates recording five kills in the second set and four in the third, UNT took both sets to complete the sweep.
SFA will return to Southland Conference play, taking on Northwestern State Sept. 28 in Natchitoches, La.
