MONROE La. – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team remained unbeaten in 2013, sweeping the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (25-22, 25-23, 25-11) Monday afternoon in the ULM Activity Center on Labor Day.
“It was a solid weekend for these girls,” head volleyball coach Debbie Humphreys said. “The win over ULM is a great way to finish up this road trip. The girls played hard in all four of our matches and we are looking forward to our upcoming trip to Central Florida.”
SFA (4-0) snapped a two-game losing streak verse the Warhawks (0-4) with the holiday victory. The win came in front of a record 237 fans in the home opener for ULM. The Warhawks had defeated the Ladyjacks each of the past two seasons and prior to the 2011 and 2012 losses, SFA had a 34-match winning streak over ULM dating back to 1989.
The sweep is the third consecutive for the Ladyjacks in their first four matches. The three-set, three-match sweep is the first for SFA since the Ladyjacks knocked off Alcorn State, Houston and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi back in 2009.
The Ladyjacks never trailed and hit a .294 clip, as they took the opening set.
After the Warhawks fought off two set points in the second set, SFA bested ULM and took a 2-0 advantage, before rolling in a 25-11 third set victory to clinch the sweep.
The Ladyjacks will return to action Friday, Sept. 6, against George Washington in the Holiday Inn Select/UCF Classic in Orlando, Fla.
