Doubles Wins Highlight Day for Ladyjacks

HOUSTON, Texas – The SFA women’s tennis team played their second day of the three day tournament on Saturday at University of Houston’s Cougar Classic.
The field featured 11 schools including nationally ranked No. 18 Texas Tech, No. 22 Rice, and No. 52 Arkansas. Also competing were Houston, Maryland, Texas State, Kansas, Lamar, Prairie View A&M, Iowa State and Northwestern State.
The day was highlighted by two doubles wins and a singles victory.
Building on Friday’s work, two doubles duos grabbed wins. Senior pair Laura Servise and Rachel Pierce defeated Lamar’s Carolina Masó and Hanna Elfving 8-3. While with a similar score, sophomore team Lera Terentyeva and Kate Bugayenko sailed by Stephanie Nguyen and Jane Stewart 8-2.
Sophomore Lera Terentyeva rolled past Texas State’s Eva Dench 6-1, 6-2 to claim a win.
The final day of the Cougar Classic will take place Sunday at the John E. Hoff Courts.
