NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team heads into the 2013 Southland Conference Tournament ready to face conference champion Central Arkansas. The two teams are set to tangle at 4 p.m. Friday from the Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi.
SFA (16-15, 8-10) lost in straight set to UCA (26-3, 18-0) in both matches this season and is 3-8 all-time against the Sugar Bears. The Ladyjacks are coming off a 3-1 loss to Northwestern State to close the regular season that saw two of the top defensive performances of the season in the Southland. Ladyjack libero O.J. Olson tallied 43 digs in the 4-set match to break the school record for a 4-set match. Her mark also is tied for 18th in NCAA history for such a match. Northwestern State’s libero kept pace and posted 42 digs as the two liberos each averaged nearly 11 digs per set for the match. The two teams combined for 242 digs.
UCA is looking to become the first team to win back-to-back Southland Conference Tournaments since Texas State did so in 2004 and 2005. The Sugar Bears became the fifth team in conference history to go through league play undefeated. UCA only lost seven sets during conference play this year and was never pushed to a fifth set, sweeping Southland opponents 11 times. SFA trails in the all-time series against UCA 8-3.
Every match of the Southland Conference Tournament will have live stats and a live stream available. Fans can find the links to live stats and more at the tournament central page at southland.org. The championship match will not have a live stream on the Southland site and instead will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
