NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin volleyball will play its final match of the regular season on Saturday with a spot on the line. The Ladyjacks take on the Northwestern State Lady Demons (18-11, 14-3) at 1 p.m. at Shelton Gym looking to avenge a road loss to the Demons earlier this season. Head Coach Debbie Humphreys also will recognize seniors Leslie Jackson and Amanda Rister beforehand for Senior Day. The Ladyjacks are looking to avenge a 3-1 loss on the road at Northwestern State earlier this season.
The Ladyjacks (16-14, 8-9) are currently in a three-way tie for seventh in the Southland Conference standings, but with Incarnate Word not eligible for postseason play this year it creates a tie for the sixth, seven and eighth seeds in the tournament.
SFA holds the tiebreaker with McNeese State by winning its only match with the Cowgirls this season. Also tied with SFA and McNeese State is Houston Baptist, and one game back with a 7-10 record in conference play is Lamar. Those four teams are vying or the final three spots in the conference tournament. Houston Baptist and Lamar will play Saturday, and McNeese plays Nicholls State. The Ladyjacks fell in their match with Houston Baptist earlier this season and defeated Lamar.
Admission to the volleyball match is free and kicks off an exciting day of Ladyjacks action. Following the volleyball match at 1 p.m., the women’s basketball team will be hosting the final day of two days worth of Preseason Women’s NIT starting at 5 p.m. with two games set to play at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
