FRISCO, Texas - Following their fourth straight victory, all of which have been shutouts, Stephen F. Austin sophomore defender Chantal Curry was honored on Tuesday by being named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Curry, a native of Austin, Texas (McNeil HS), played a big role in anchoring the Stephen F. Austin backline that pitched two shutouts on the week to increase their league-leading total to nine on the season, four off the school record.
The award was Curry's first of her career.
The Ladyjack's defense is tied for second in the nation in shutout percentage (.750), a high-mark in the program's history at this point in a season. SFA is also 12th in the nation in goals against average (.474).
SFA will look to make it five straight victories this Friday when they host McNeese State at 7 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. match on Sunday versus Abilene Christian.
