
SFA Drops Close Match to Houston Baptist

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Ladyjack volleyball team dropped only their second all-time match to Houston Baptist University in Sharp Gym on Saturday in a 3-2 final. The Ladyjacks now stand 12-10 overall and 4-5 in the Southland Conference.
The Ladyjacks looked strong in the first set stating 15 kills and held a match-high attacking ratio of .389, taking the frame 25-21. SFA reeled off another great set holding HBU (10-12, 5-5 SLC) to only six kills and grabbing the set 25-19.
In the third, the Ladyjacks and Huskies battled back and forth resulting in five lead changes, but SFA fell 25-20 and dropped the fourth in a close 25-22.
With a great day for the team was sophomore Keeley Kainer with a career high 14 kills and 15 points scored overall for SFA. Junior setter Paige Holland performed well with 37 assists to help the Ladyjacks. Jaque Allen, a sophomore, recorded a combined 12 kills and six blocks. Also with 12 kills, was freshmen Justice Walker. The Ladyjacks put up 12 blocks against HBU.
SFA returns home on Oct. 24 to meet Sam Houston State in Shelton Gym for a 6:30 p.m. matchup.
